New Energy Measures

What do the temporary tax reductions mean for your energy bill?

The Spanish government has approved a new Royal Decree-Law (Real Decreto-ley) containing temporary energy tax measures. If electricity prices in September rise by more than 15% compared with last year, several relief measures will come into effect for households and small businesses:

  • VAT on electricity: Temporarily reduced from 21% to 10% for contracted power of up to 10 kW and households receiving the bono social (also applicable to natural gas, firewood and pellets).
  • Special Tax on Electricity: Reduced from 5.1% to 0.5%.
  • Butane gas cylinders: The maximum price of a butane gas cylinder will be fixed at €19.55 until 30 June 2027.

Why solar energy remains the smart choice for the long term

Although these temporary tax reductions will ease monthly grid electricity bills in the short term, the energy market remains volatile. Government measures are always temporary — once these discounts expire, you will once again be fully exposed to fluctuating market prices and grid charges.

With your own solar panel installation, you choose lasting independence:

  • Control over your regular expenses: You generate your own clean electricity and are not affected by future tax changes on grid electricity.
  • Sustainable savings: Self-generated solar energy delivers direct returns year after year.
  • Increased property value: Your property becomes more energy-efficient and ready for the future.
