Is it time for a home battery?
Do you have solar panels and use Iberdrola Solar Cloud? If so, it is important to know that the terms and conditions have changed. For residential customers with a 2.0 tariff, Solar Cloud is linked to Asistente Smart Avanzado.
This smart energy service from Iberdrola provides insight into your energy consumption and offers personal energy-saving tips, smart charging for an electric vehicle and a repair service, among other features. Solar Cloud is also part of this service. It stores the value of unused solar energy in a virtual wallet, allowing the credit to be offset against future energy bills.
Asistente Smart Avanzado currently costs €3.45 per month excluding VAT (€4.17 including VAT).
Iberdrola is not the first energy supplier to charge for a virtual battery or wallet. Rates and conditions vary by supplier and may change. It is therefore advisable to regularly check how much your exported solar energy is actually worth.

How much energy do you need to export?
If you compare the full monthly fee with the value provided by Solar Cloud, at a rate of €0.03/kWh you would need to export approximately 139 kWh per month to build up €4.17 in credit. At €0.05/kWh, this would be approximately 83.4 kWh. The actual rate depends on your energy contract.
Virtual or physical energy storage?
A virtual battery does not store electricity. Instead, it keeps track of the financial value of the energy you export to the grid. With a physical home battery, you can actually store surplus solar energy and use it yourself later, for example in the evening.
This allows you to increase your self-consumption, draw less electricity from the grid (reducing your electricity bill) and become less dependent on changing export rates and conditions.
